Dear Prospective Delegates,
It’s my absolute pleasure and delight to invite you all to the first ever British Columbia Model United Nations Conferences! My name is Anjan Katta, and I will be the Secretary General for this year’s conference.
BCMUN epitomizes change, a difference, an unorthodox and unequalled approach to the generic three day conference MUN’s found in BC and Canada alike. Under the guidance of the head of the MUN club at Cornell University, BCMUN was founded and created to serve as a realistic and applicable opportunity for delegates looking to garner experience directly related to the style of MUN found in Ivy League and other American Universities; BCMUN is being held as a series of one day Joint Crisis Committees (JCC) which are specialized and small committees that are split up into two polarized factions that will contest against each other on highly controversial and pertinent issues. The small but lively size of the committees fosters intimate debate and the highly realistic issues presented in the JCC will provide a new level of challenge for experienced MUN delegates; newcomers will be able to speak consistently with the small size. I believe that this innovative form of MUN allows you to gain a more realistic insight into the competitive world, while developing your critical thinking and public speaking skills.
The philosophy of BCMUN revolves around simulating a university style MUN conference, as well caring for the delegates’ needs. Being an avid MUN attendee myself, I understand the difficulties of balancing other activities with MUN, especially the loads of weekend activities and homework. Thus, each of the BCMUN conferences will only be one Saturday long. Furthermore, the conference costs have been minimized to $40 per conference. Due to the nature of BCMUN and the JCC style of conference, there are also more opportunities for awards and other recognition. Since you are encouraged to register for multiple conferences, you are guaranteed more opportunities to gain significant amounts of experience and opportunities to win awards as well.
There will be three one day conferences this year: February 19th, March 12th, and April 16th. I encourage you all to sign up for one or even more as they will offer you promising and invaluable experiences.
BCMUN is created and run in the vision of providing youth all over British Columbia with the opportunity to maximize and fulfill their potential. Created in the image of Ivy League MUN’s but maintained with the needs and the simplicity of high school students, BCMUN hopes to create a comfortable, well accustomed, yet challenging and self-fulfilling experience for all
